How to Apply For a Job at Hot Topic

StartWire

You can search and apply for select Hot Topic jobs through StartWire. We'll even give you access to free tools that you can use to simplify your job search so you can keep things as organized as possible. Apply now

Apply online

You can also apply for Hot Topic jobs directly through their hiring website. This is normally the best way to search for in-store jobs, as they don't always notify us of their hourly openings. If you do decide to apply through the Hot Topic career site, just make sure you come back and tell us about your application so you can still access the organizational tools that we offer.

Paper application

To apply for non-management positions in Hot Topic stores, you will need to fill out a paper application. These applications are available in all Hot Topic locations. Simply ask for the hiring manager, grab an application, and return it once you've had a chance to complete it.

The Hot Topic Application Process

To begin the Hot Topic job application, you will need to provide some basic information about yourself and the position you're applying for. Note: Sales associate positions are not listed on their website. If you're looking for a position as a sales associate, you will need to contact the store manager (either by phone or in-person) and ask if they have any positions available. If they do, you will need to fill out a paper application.

Pre-employment questions

Once you create your account on the Hot Topic hiring site, you will be presented with a series of questions. The first couple questions are concerned with the days and hours that you're available to work. After that, you will be asked five fill in the blank questions. To give you an idea of what to expect, here are a few examples:

"What three characteristics do you think set you apart from other applicants?"

"What does customer service mean to you?"

"Tell us how you discover new music?"

Though these might seem like simple questions, it's important to think about your answers very carefully. This is a great opportunity to not only show off who you are as a person, but to demonstrate why you're such a great fit for their organization.

Resume

After you answer the questions, you will have the opportunity to upload your resume. Uploading your resume is not required, but you should definitely take advantage of the opportunity if you have one prepared. Providing a great and relevant resume is a good way to stand out, which is something that can be hard to do during a regular job application.

If you don't provide a resume, you will need to fill out an employment application where you will provide most of the information that would have been on your resume. Primarily, your name, address, phone number, email address, education, work history, and references.

After you complete this section of the application, you will be all finished.

Background check

Hot Topic reserves the right to perform a pre-employment background check on all applicants. By submitting the application, you are giving them permission to conduct the background check.

How to Get Updates on Your Hot Topic Application

Unfortunately, Hot Topic does not provide automatic application updates at this time. To learn where you stand after you've submitted the application, you will need to check with the hiring manager directly.
