Communications and College Relations Specialist - CUNY School of Medicine

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Communications and College Relations Specialist will support the CUNY School of Medicine's (CSOM) brand and implement, manage, and assess a comprehensive communications plan for the school. The Specialist will work with CSOM's leadership, development/alumni staff and web development as well as college-wide communications and marketing staff to support CSOM's communications and marketing goals and efforts.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Work with Chief of Staff and CCNY's Office of Communications to assist in developing, implementing, and leading a successful and integrated communications program using multiple mediums in a timely and consistent fashion. This may include e-newsletters, news magazine, social media, e-blasts, press releases, letters to the editor, opinion pieces, year-end-reminders/reports, web pages, and invitations as well as assisting with campaign materials, donor publications, development proposals and e-communications, stewardship reports, and gift acknowledgements.

* Maintain a consistent narrative to increase brand and name recognition and presence in all mediums including coordinated marketing efforts to ensure uniformity with broader college marketing and branding efforts.

* Write internal and external communications, including articles for website, special announcements,

* Help strengthen school's visibility in national, regional, and international media by serving as main liaison with City College of New York Office of Communications and Marketing.

* Aid in strategic outreach with CSOM departments and external stakeholders.

* Handle social media activities with key internal and external stakeholders.

* Assist in the management of advancement and school content on website.

* Assist staff with promotional materials for events and conferences.

* Coordinate relationships with vendors supporting communications initiatives.

* Participate in special projects as assigned.


* Bachelor's degree required, preferably in marketing, public relations, communications, organizational leadership, or a related field

* Minimum four years of full-time professional experience in communications, constituent relations, non-profit management, marketing, branding or related experience in a service-oriented field required, preferably in a higher education environment

* Demonstrated abilities in consensus building preferred

* Graphic design experience and/or web development preferred

* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading and copyediting skills required; experience preparing reports and presentations

* Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management, and planning abilities

* Professional demeanor and flexibility with ability to prioritize, respond to and manage multiple projects and demands while meeting strict deadlines

* Detail and "big picture" oriented with excellent follow-up and follow-through

* Proficiency with electronic communications, social media, and website tools strongly preferred

* Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications; experience using alumni/donor database

* Ability to attend and help with occasional weekend and evening events required


Assists in establishing and maintaining relationships with external entities and communities, representing the College's positions and interests

* Serves as a liaison to one or more external organizations, representing the College and building working relationships with the leadership of these organizations

* Plans and implements communications campaigns, working with publications staff

* Develops an understanding of the concerns of external organizations and communicates these to appropriate College management

* Plans public activities and contributes to marketing of College activities and programs to external groups

* With College publications and editorial personnel, plans, writes, and produces publicity materials and other external communications

* May maintain relationships with media representatives

* Performs related duties as assigned.
