Senior Cyber Security Engineer

AbleVets has an opportunity available for an experienced, motivated Cyber Security Engineer to support our VA customer.


Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing Information Assurance and Cybersecurity support to the VA. The cyber security engineer has IT experience with Cyber Security Policy and threat mitigation. The successful candidate must be well versed in Cyber Security Tools, network topologies, intrusion detection, PKI, and secured networks. They must have familiarity and experience in the implementation of cyber security regulations. Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

 Identify security risks through the analysis of known information

 Assess the Cyber Security risk of IT systems documenting them in formal risk assessments using Risk Management Framework and supporting artifacts associated with the A&A process

 Organize, develop, and present security briefings, written summaries, and written reports incorporating narrative, tabular and/or graphic elements on A&A activities

 Implement IT security solutions and assures successful implementation

 Apply knowledge of security principles, policy, and regulations to daily tasking

 Provide IT security engineering support to cross-functional project teams to ensure that VA security policies, processes, and controls are adhered to, planned for, implemented throughout the project lifecycle, and provide strategic cyber security support for OIS

 Provide an analysis of how VA currently employs and embeds Cybersecurity into its tools, design and development methodologies, and Application Programming Interface (API)/service –driven architecture

 Develop Detailed Workflow Report, including any specific recommendations describing efficiencies and improvements

 Establish standard operating procedures for embedding security-driven processes into the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

 Experience working in the FedRAMP cloud environment understanding IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS in regards to cloud service provider security control responsibilities and customer responsibilities

 Effectively and efficiently communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze and monitor a project’s security posture and status

 Effectively following-up with key project team members

 Engage with VA client on security matters


 Bachelor’s Degree or higher in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline is required; eight (8) years’ experience may be substituted for education requirement

 At least ten (10) years of related experience, including experience with:

o  Risk Management Framework

o  Application Software Security

o  Authorization Requirements Process for Federal Government

o  Information Assurance

o  FISMA and/ or FedRAMP requirements

 CISSP or ISSEP or CCSP

 Expert technical knowledge of risk management, and information security concepts and technologies

 Experience with Cyber Security document management and familiar with security and privacy rules

 Excellent verbal communication skills

 Excellent written skills for preparing reports and briefings

 Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

 Ability to facilitate and coordinate efforts with key government and non-government stakeholders

 U.S. Citizenship is required as is successfully passing a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting

 Ability to obtain a security clearance

 Previous Government contracting work experience
