Overview

Fairview Health Services is looking for a Patient Access Specialist based out of Fairview Energy Park offices in St. Paul, Minnesota. This is a part time benefit eligible position; approved for 60 hours every two weeks between the hours of 11:30 pm and 7:30 am, this position does require working every other weekend.

Responsibilities/Job Description

This position Coordinates inpatient admissions to acute care units from the time of decision to admit, to placement of patient in an appropriate bed. Performs entry into ADT system, as well as transfers and discharges patient accounts in a timely and accurate manner. Facilitates pre-planning of scheduled admissions and unit-to-unit transfers. Facilitate communication, admission and consultation aspects for physicians through U-ACCESS, Fairview University Direct and Patient Placement lines.

* Receives incoming unexpected admissions – any admission not expected at 5 pm the previous day. Approximately 25 – 40 per day

* Accurately gathers relevant patient demographic and clinical information to facilitate scheduled inpatient admissions to appropriate PCU based on established clinical protocols. Enters data into PAT and PASS to alert financial reps and units of upcoming admissions.

* Monitors PAT and PASS to coordinate internal unit-to-unit transfers, hospital to hospital transfers and discharges

* Facilitate communication, admission and consultation aspects for physicians through U-ACCESS, Fairview University Direct and Patient Placement lines

* Collects daily room type charges data for UMMC, which directly affects the charge capture information and revenue cycle

* Responsible for daily processing of the surgery schedule for UMMC. Entails cross referencing information in Surgiserve, PAT and PASS to assure correct placement of next day surgery patients according to clinical acuity

* Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* HS Diploma or GED

* One to Two years' experience in a hospital customer service setting

Preferred Qualifications

* Vocational/Technical Training or working toward degree

* Patient placement experience

* High volume call center experience

Other Required Skills

* Proficiency with multiple computer programs

* Multi-tasking required

* Ability to problem solve, think on your feet and work under pressure without direct supervision

Desired Skills

* Knowledge of medical terminology helpful

* Ability to work under pressure at a steady pace in an unpredictable environment
