Friday Wrap Up: The Early Bird Gets the Job!

If you wonder what’s the secret behind those who’ve “gotten the job”, our tip on “Applying Early” very likely may be it.

We know it isn’t always easy.  Taking that extra step to find job openings before they’re listed may feel like extra, unnecessary work in an already tiresome job search.  Job search can feel like a job in itself, so why would anyone add more work to make it harder?

There’s a sunny side to this equation.  Treat networking and researching these new job openings as an INVESTMENT.  For example, your network doesn’t get built over night.  You need to spend time fostering and building these relationships, just as you do with your friendships.  Those relationships can pay off throughout your career.

If you want better chances at securing a job, take the initiative to find these jobs early in the process or before they’re posted.  When a house is being built, you know the foundation is the most crucial part.  More attention and work is put into the foundation because the whole structure of the house depends on the foundation.  Similarly, when you’re embarking on your job search, build a foundation for success by being prepared before you’ve even filled out an application.
