Robinson Community Learning Center AmeriCorps Member (Half-Time)

The mission of the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) is to welcome community and Notre Dame partners that strengthen the Northeast Neighborhood of South Bend through relationship building and educational opportunities. By promoting innovation and excellence, the Center builds individual capacity and enhances existing systems throughout South Bend. The work of the RCLC addresses five goals to accomplish this mission: Hospitality, Education, Partnership, Civic Engagement, and Sustainability.

RCLC AmeriCorps members may be assigned to serve at the Robinson Community Learning Center or at community partner outreach sites, including the Boys & Girls Club of St. Joseph County, the ND Center for Arts and Culture, and El Campito Child Development Center.

AmeriCorps members serving at the Robinson Center will be assigned to one of the following program areas:

- Adult Programs

- Youth Development Afterschool Program

- Performing Arts/Shakespeare

- Youth Entrepreneurship

- Take Ten Violence Prevention/Conflict Resolution

- Literacy Tutoring

-The ENL Preschool

-Talk With Your Baby

AmeriCorps members are charged with directly serving program participants, building program capacity, and expanding the outreach of their assigned program area.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Assist with or lead program activities.These may include: teaching classes, individual tutoring, mentoring, creating enrichment activities, or leading field trips.

- Recruit volunteers, and coordinate volunteer activities and training.

- Develop and implement curricula

- Explore opportunities to engage new community or ND partners in the RCLC mission.

- Assist with coordinating outreach efforts.

- Assist in conducting program evaluation, including collecting and entering data, and creating written reports.

- Maintain records and paperwork required by the RCLC and AmeriCorps

- Oversee and coordinate special projects as requested.

- Participate in AmeriCorps trainings throughout the year, including overnight out-of town event in October.

- Attend weekly AmeriCorps meetings at the RCLC.

AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations.

AmeriCorps is providing funding for the Robinson Community Learning Center to have nine half-time AmeriCorps members during 2016-2017. These are service positions, rather than traditional “jobs.” Half-time AmeriCorps members are expected to complete a year of service (900 hours). On completion of the term of service (900 hours), members will receive an education award.

Half-Time AmeriCorps members will be compensated as follows:

Living Allowance: $3,000

Education Award $2,887 (on completion of 900 service hours)
