Job Description The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Prospect Park YMCA is seeking a qualified individual who will be responsible for ensuring the Y After School Program meets all program standards and funding guidelines. The Compass Site Director will plan and organize a structured program consisting of educational and recreational activities appropriate for the serviced age group, supervise staff and maintain a high level of communication between school representatives, the YMCA and participants.


BA/BS in Education, Child Psychology or related field.

Three to five years of youth development experience.

Knowledge of development and administration of youth programs, AS400 and Compass databases, staff supervision, effective budget management and developing and sustaining community partnerships.

Current CPR/First Aid certifications.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Strong hospitality skills.

Essential Functions

Recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise all staff, according to YMCA policies.

Ensure that all Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), Department of Health (DOH), and YMCA Guidelines are followed and adhered to.

Manage administrative issues such as data entry (AS400,, etc.), human resources, reports, space, security, and all other administrative duties/documentation for the program.

Ensure supplies and equipment are adequate and kept safe, and available for programmatic needs.

Promote literacy, multiculturalism, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and parent / community involvement, through appropriate program enhancements and activities.

Maintain accurate records pertaining to licensing requirements and staff / child health and safety.

Evaluate and document staff performance, formally and informally, during the program year.

Serve as liaison to school personnel, create a Parent Advisory and Youth Advisory Group, attend school planning and PTA meetings, and develop community relations with other community organizations or programs.

Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
