Boston Suburb future home of World’s Largest Automated Living Cell Manufacturing Plant

Tucked in a Boston suburb, construction is under way for what will soon be the world’s largest automated living cell manufacturing plant. 

Organogenesis is in the midst of a major, multi-year expansion of its global headquarters, R&D and manufacturing facilities in Canton, Mass.

The Massachusetts Office of Business Development worked closely with Organogenesis to create a $12.9 million incentive package, including the Life Sciences Center grant, as well as tax credits for research-and-development expansion.  

…As part of the agreement, Organogenesis committed to creating 280 new in-state jobs by 2013, and specifically to creating 17 new in-state jobs in 2011.  In the first quarter of 2011, the company surpassed its target expectations for 2011 Massachusetts job creation by adding 19 in-state jobs, with an additional 35 open positions.

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the work were held today, work will be completed in 2013.

Biotech Jobs Watch: New York Medical College Gets $3.25 M in Funding

The New York Medical College has landed $3.25 M in funding at New York Medical College; the funding will be used to stimulate creation of jobs and innovating business and industry opportunities. Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins hailed the funding as a stimulus to “strengthen the future of our local economy” in Westchester County.

Funding is provided by the New York State Senate GEN*NY*SIS program, which helps public, not-for-profit and private academic research institutions. The program is designed to establish New York as a leader in high-tech and biotechnology-related research.

Westchester County is home to the largest concentration of biotechnology companies in New York State.

On Cusp of Acquisition, Genzyme Still List Scores of Jobs near Boston

Sanofi-Aventis has announced plans to acquire biotech heavyweight Genzyme, but that doesn’t stop them from hiring…

We see over 300+ job listings for Genzyme in the Boston area, with jobs ranging from Administrative Assistant to Regulatory Affairs, Process Engineering and Quality Control.

Speaking of Boston, Forbes has just ranked Bean Town #4 on a list of Best Places to work. Minneapolis, Austin, and Salt Lake City came in first, second, and third respectively; factors for consideration included cost of living, diversity of industry sectors and quality of life.

60+ New Corporate Jobs in PA’s Lehigh Valley

Avantor Performance Materials, an international chemical manufacturing company, plans to move corporate headquarters to Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley. They’ll be hiring for an estimated 60 jobs for corporate positions paying $80K a year on average. The 60 new hires will join 140 current Avantor employees.

Avantor processes and distributes high purity acids, solvents, organic and inorganic chemicals for laboratory, pharmaceutical and microelectronic industries.

Bristol Meyers Squibb Thriving & Keeping Hundreds of Jobs Quiet

Search for “pharma” and “hiring” in Google News, and you won’t find many listings of companies actively hiring. But don’t trust everything you read: Sometimes you just need to read between the lines.

Here’s an example: Bristol Myers Squibb is actively hiring—and has over 400 jobs posted, many of which are in the Boston and New York/New Jersey metro areas. Over 120 of these gigs pay an estimated annual salary of $100K or above. The company is receiving strong thumb’s-up from industry analysts for financial performance. The openings simply aren’t called out in the media.

Accredo Health, a Memphis-Based provider of specialty pharmaceuticals, boosted profits for 2010 by 19% to an all-time record of $11.3B. A subsidiary of Jersey-based Medco Health Solutions, Accredo is currently hiring for 100 positions.

SXC Health Solutions Corporation, named one of Chicago’s Fast 50 by Crain’s Business Daily, has over 150+ jobs posted.

The company posted revenues of $1.95 B for 2010—an increase of 35% of 2009. Growth indeed. Did we mention they also have a new contract worth a cool one billion annually? Expect the hiring to continue.

SXC doesn’t appear to use Facebook or Twitter to make friends with prospective candidates. So we recommend more of an old-fashioned networking approach: if you’re in Chicago, ask around for an introduction!

Pharma Watch: EMD Serono Hiring for 100 Jobs near Boston

EMD Serono’s hiring big to staff up their new research facility in Billerica, Massachusetts—a stone’s throw from Boston.  The hiring effort started last year, now that facility construction has been completed, the company’s got the capacity to hire another 100 employees. Take a tour here.

Biovest to Add Jobs to Twin Cities

Biovest International will likely add “hundreds” of new jobs in the Twin Cities. The Tampa, Florida based company is renovating a manufacturing facility and preparing to add staff so that that can get a cancer-fighting vaccine to market as soon as it receives FDA approval.

Quintiles is Hiring Big (& A Corner of Pharma You May Not Know About)
